Behind the Lens

I’m a full time amateur. I love taking photographs. When I was a kid my father bought me a Nikon EM with a 35mm lens. I took it everywhere and tried to learn. With travel and kids and life in general, I lost the passion but regained some of it with the cameras on modern mobile phones.

Recently, I’ve wanted to disconnect from the mobile with the feeling that I’m not really in control of what content I see, the news is depressing and there’s someone else pulling my strings. I invested in a Ricoh G3 and will start with that. It’s a fantastic little camera; light and easy, yet fully programmable. Thank you YouTube and the many videos about this camera and also about photography, something I wish had been available when I was a kid. I really love street photography as a genre, although it can be intimidating to pull out your camera and snap people close up.

There is still a place for mobile phone photography of course, as you can see from some of my pictures. I’ve always liked the results from Samsung mobile phone cameras and currently have a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra which I hope to trade in within a year.
